  1. great advice! Some of the things I never thought of and maybe my grandparents didn’t know either. I want to raise my own chickens, but my husband says no because we could never go away on vacation ;-9

  2. Chickens are great pets.
I have had chickens now for 9 years, I have lost 5 due to criters! I now have only 5 chickens which are enough for 4 people. .
    They are Reds, laying chickens.
I feed them oatmeat,, corn on the cob and spinach along with their laying mash. They come when called, roam all over the property, both dogs and cats get along.
I can leave them in their cope for 24 hours if need be as long as they have enough water and extra food, and their coop in secure from creatures!
Being retired, I put alot of energy in my herb& vegatable garden, they help keep down the unwanted bugs for me.
My flower garden does very well with their dropings and eating unwanted bugs as well.
I use their dropings for ferterlizer in my garden,
BUT the BEST! is their eggs.. you have not tasted eggs so good until you taste a free range fresh egg.

  3. Thank you for the information. I didn’t know avocado and onions were bad for my chickens.
I have 6 hens that free range my backyard.
We all enjoy watching them through out the day. Fresh eggs are the best.

  5. We got 2 hens about 2 mths ago, we let them free range and we love watching them. They are friendly and everyone gets a kick out of hearing me call them, but they come running when I do. They are about 22wks old now. No eggs yet. Can’t wait until they do start producing.
